Assessment Phase

Full Assessment and Feedback Consultation

Before booking

To start your journey with ADHDdoc we ask that a short pre-assessment questionnaire is completed to determine if our service is the right choice for your young person. If based on this questionnaire we feel a screening call with our Advanced Nurse Practitioner would be beneficial, you will be directed to a page to book this call. The cost for this call is €100. If we feel we are the right service for your young person, this amount will be deducted from the overall assessment cost.

After booking

Shortly after booking your appointment, you will receive documentation to be completed including a registration form, parental consent form, collateral history form, and three links to the Conners-4 online assessments which are to be completed by the parents/guardians, the young person, and the young person’s main teacher. This should be completed prior to your first appointment.

Initial Assessment

The cost of the assessment is €2000, this is split into two instalments of €1000. The first instalment is to be paid online at time of booking, the second is to be paid on the date of the assessment at reception. Families should plan to be in the clinic for around three hours. During this visit, parents/guardians will take part in a detailed clinical interview, the young person will meet separately with the clinician, and they will also complete a QbTest with one of our healthcare assistants. The exact timing of each part varies depending on the needs of the young person, but the overall structure of the assessment remains the same.

Feedback Consultation

This appointment is a 60-minute feedback consultation with one of our GP specialists where we will discuss findings and recommendations from the initial assessment.

The child should be present for this appointment (unless there are extenuating circumstances).

If a diagnosis of ADHD is made, and following discussion medication is considered appropriate, medication is prescribed by our GP specialist.

Should medication be commenced follow-up Medication reviews will be undertaken by our experienced nurse prescriber.

Again, this will be arranged prior to you leaving the clinic.

If during our ADHD assessment process outlined above, we identify that your case is more complex, we may recommend that you are seen by another specialist within the service such as one of our child psychiatrists, psychologists or an occupational therapist for further evaluation. This decision cannot be predicted in advance, as it depends entirely on the findings and outcomes of your assessment.

Medication Reviews

Medication is a first-line treatment of ADHD. Titration is a process used to find the right dosage of a medication.

Titration or medication dose adjustment, ensures maximum treatment effects from your medication, with minimum side effects. You will need a course of visits with our Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) to find the best medication and dose for your needs. To determine the most suitable medication and dosage for your needs, a series of appointments with a doctor will be required, as everyone responds differently to medication.

All medication is adjusted on an individual basis, taking your response to medication, side-effects, preferences, lifestyle and other health conditions into account.

Treatment Initiation

Our GP will typically issue a 4-week medication prescription with instructions at the feedback consultation.

You should have your blood pressure and pulse checked with each increase in dose of your medication. You could ask your pharmacy to do this, or you can buy a blood pressure monitor from your pharmacy. Please record your blood pressure and pulse readings and have them ready before your next visit.

Follow up Medication Review Visits

Review of medication. These can occur at 4, 8 or 12-week intervals as necessary. Duration 20 minutes. Cost €100. Virtual appointment (phone or video call) only.
  • At these visits our ANP will assess your progress, address any questions and adjust your dose of medication.
  • Once optimal dosing is achieved, you will be discharged to your own GP, on a shared care agreement. We will issue a discharge letter, asking your GP to continue your prescription.
